Yacht Models
History and Process

For
over thirty years we have been building models for clients
of their yachts. Many enjoy documenting their yachting
history with a 3-dimensional model for their home or
office. Here they can enjoy the beauty of the yachts
design, show clients and friends their yacht and better
yet, plan the next on board event!
The
model is considered 3-Dimensional art. Our work is renowned
for the clarity and attention to detail to the original
design. With jewelry making skills, all the metalwork
is created in our shop. Different colors of gold represent
the finished metals of winches, blocks, propellers and
assorted hardware. By using these fine materials the
integrity of the model will last for generations.
We
utilize and embrace new technology when necessary to
achieve the desired end result. This will include use
of the computer for CAD design, 2D and 3D, creating artwork
for graphics, communication with designers and architects,
laser cutting, sublimation dye printing and micro stamping
details.
Upon
receiving as much information as possible from various
sources, further documentation is commonly necessary.
A personal visit to the yacht is scheduled and additional
information is collected. We thoroughly photograph, videotape
and measure the yacht collecting many missing details
and noting alterations and changes to the design not
reflected on the drawings.
Our
attention to detail is paramount to the final product.
We work closely with the owner, interior architect or
designer to figure the proper scale and location for
the completed model. We design the case / table for its
protection and display. We also work closely with an
art moving company to ensure the delivery of the model
anywhere in the world. We accompany the model and oversee
its final installation.
We
specialize in 20th century yachts, classics, contemporary
and super yachts.
Brochures
are available, please
call my shop to have one sent, yes you'll actually have to pick up the phone
and call. This will allow me to evaluate what additional
content might need to be sent such as video tape copies
or magazine article, photo CD, etc.
Model
Inquiry Guidelines
When an individual explores the possibilities
of having a custom yacht model constructed there are
common questions which need to be addressed. Many do
not realize all the required skills necessary to execute
the model building process. Below are some items that
affect the quality and cost of such work.
There are 3 areas of expertise, which are
important to understand.
First, the length of time an individual
has been modeling and what their interests are, i.e.
ships, war ships, 18th century vessels, contemporary
or historic, power or sail, etc.
Second, are they professional, hobbyist
or amateur? Are the tooling and knowledge skills adequate
to yield the end quality you are looking for with respect
to the cost amount of the finished project?
Third, what skills are employed in the
model construction process? There are many skills pooled
together over time which are important such as knowledge
of naval architecture, CAD computer skills, jewelry-making/
metalworking skills, painting, wood working/carving skills,
accounting methods, design skills, etc.
I
strongly encourage a visit to an individuals shop to
discuss details and answer any questions that one might
have. What is the chosen or desired
scale? Size does matter! Where will the model reside, home or office?
Does the model need a display table and case constructed,
or will it be built
into a wall? What information is available about the boat, CAD drawing
access, old style drafting drawings, etc? Is the original boat able to
be accessed for photo and cross-reference documentation?
