KALEVALA
We are building a custom Swan 60 with an extended transom. Kalevala's owner had a good part in the building of his boat and sailed her around the world. Kalevala is a sloop and is being built at 7/16" scale. The model is about 28 inches long by 43" tall with a beam of 7-5/8".

We have enlisted the use of some new and available technologies with this model. Locally we have been having some parts milled for the model. The main boom and mirrored dual steering pedestals were drawn in 3D CAD and milled out of a tooling board at a CNC 3D milling company. Additionally, we converted other hardware such as winches, cleats, fairleads, and blocks to 3D and parts are being created in a liquid polymer solution using a method called stereo-lithography. The parts are grown over night and then cast in gold and returned to our shop for the final finishing process. This is allowing us to work on other things while this work is being outsourced. The detail and accuracy is amazing. You can see some of this detail in a newly produced 4.5 minute promotional DVD produced by Gary Jobson as part of my marketing material. Stay tuned as this model will be the next to go down the weighs.....

WINDCREST
98' Fontaine designed ketch
Built by Hodgdon Yachts in East Boothbay, Maine 2006

The Windcrest model is being built at a scale of 5/16" scale, making the hull 30.5 inches long. The hull is hand carved mahogany and basswood. The deckhouse is milled from 3D files as a separated insert. This allows us to work on various parts in different stages in our shop. We have 15 parts converted to 3D CAD for export to be produced using the stereo lithography process mentioned above and cast in gold. Back in 2006 we added a laser cutting machine to our shop as well. This has proved invaluable as an in-house tool developing and producing parts needed for the models. More about this model will evolve. We are working on finishing the hull and painting, the deckhouse, the ship helm station, the booms and the main and mizzen masts and hardware. Oh! What to do next?
OJIBWAY
A Custom 36' Jarvis Newman powerboat
Built by Malcolm Pettegrew in S.W. Harbor, Maine

This model is our latest model underway at our shop. The model will be built at 1/2" scale making the model an 18 inch long gem of a model. Ojibway is a bright work paneled lobster style hull. We have spent a lot of time drafting and drawing before we could even start this job. Our approach on this model is to construct the hull from molds we are making of the boat from our drawings. From 2D CAD drawing, 3D CAD files were created from which we are making the port and starboard side hull forms as well as a deck mold. Milling video is on our website showing that process. Once the shells are pulled and joined together we will build the model much like the original was built.
