The
Woodworkers Adjustable Carving Jig
A while back I became frustrated
carving hull shapes using a static 90 degree plywood jig
for carving my models. One day I sat down and gave it some
thought and designed a more versatile tool jig using my AutoCad
program. The end result was a tool jig prototype made by
a local machine shop. The tool jig is built using aluminum
stocks and designed to be used in conjunction with the standard
Jorgensen 4x10 style woodworker bench vice standard in most
wood work shops.
I have gone back to the drawing board to make further
refinements and modifications. We will be building the
second one within this year and would like to make this
tool available to be purchased by others in the woodworking
field.
I have been using this carving jig for the past year and
have found it to be a great addition to our shop. Being
able to adjust the angle of what you are carving to fit
your needs and comfort has proven to be one of the most
excellent additions to our shop and the model making process.
Sighting the model from different angles, lay-out and masking
for painting, along with its durable construction are all
attributes of the tool jig.
I
would love to have your input and comments. I would like
to know if there would be demand for this tool. This
tool cost me about $800.00 to build as a one-off piece
and it has paid for itself in many ways. We realize this
is a lot of money so we are building the second one with
another machine shop. Please contact me with your
thoughts. eddy@midcoast.com or reddy@yachtmodels.com.
