We have prepared the basswood topsides and inserted a paper copy of the deckhouse elevation in between the solid lifts. The areas to be milled out are shown with colored pencil . The different colors reflect different depths for the cutouts of the cockpit and the deckhouse.
Please note the topsides are two pieces to be joined down the centerline and all one piece from the tip of the bow to the designed waterline. It is done this way to prevent any movement in the hull effecting the finish paint job. If it was laminated up in the traditional lift method, the woods would shift in time and the lamination seams would poke through the paint causing a flaw in the finish of the topsides paint job.
This photo clearly show the depths of cuts and the registration pins to secure the hull when glued together.
With the lines drawings in the background and the hull taking shape in the foreground it is clear to see the hull construction technique.
