Detail of the bow
showing the cut outs
for the hatches, the
grid on the deck, and
the bulwarks in place.
Note: The bow stem extension
of the bulwarks is sculpted
from acrylic.
The deckhouse is carved
and shaped from basswood.
The cockpit is fabricated
from acrylic. The reason
for the cockpit being
built from acrylic is
that it is easier to
construct, no grain to
fill and is durable.
The deckhouse / cockpit
structure painted with
the decking and waterbreak
moulding being added.
Paul lays each plank
individually to recreate
the same as the real
boat. Decking is prepared
from basswood sized to
thickness and width,
stained and edged with
grease pencil to mimic
the caulking.
